Google’s new ranking system is called ‘Mobile-First Index’.
Listings are now ranked based on the mobile version of your website, even when the searched on a desktop.
So how will your current website stand up?
In November 2016, Google officially introduced ‘Mobile-First’ indexing. If you aren’t fully responsive, you will start to see your rankings drastically change over the coming months.
Here’s the official line:
Although our search index will continue to be a single index of websites and apps, our algorithms will eventually primarily use the mobile version of a site’s content to rank pages from that site, to understand structured data, and to show snippets from those pages in our results
Not ‘Mobile-First’ ready? We can certainly help. If you use the WordPress platform, you are half way there.
The majority of WordPress themes are now fully responsive. If you have a bespoke theme, it is time to talk with your developer about an update. Alternatively, we recommend that you change to a premium theme framework, customised to your precise requirements. In our opinion, this is the most cost effective website solution for SME’s. Keeping your website in line with Google’s latest updates; without incurring huge developer cost along the way.
